I should probably explain to you guys now why I want to move to Richmond after graduation. Someone once said, “A man only relocates because of one of two things. Either it’s because of money or it’s because of a girl.” I can happily tell you it’s because of a girl. I won’t bore you with the details of my love for her; I think I’ve already reached my limit for sappy posts with my post from the wedding. But she’s bold, courageous, a fearless leader, and way, way out of my league. She accepted a job in the East End of Richmond and immediately fell in love with her work and the city she found herself in. Visiting her was happy in its own way to be reunited with her, but most of my joy from those trips have come from observing how much she loves Richmond. As I think about how I want to support her, I can’t find a better way than following her to pursue a life starting in Richmond.

Personally, I have fallen in love with Richmond. I never have never seen a place so committed to diverse arts, music, and culture. Coming from a small town, all I ever knew was one type of people and form of expression. But visiting Richmond, I am always shocked to find around each corner a different and unique expression of passion. I love the commitment to pursue diversity and reconciliation in the history behind Richmond. I am excited to see how my skills and passions can pair with the community to join the fight for love. I want to be in a place that continually wrestles with its past in order to find the best way to move forward in the future. I have never been called to a place, instead, I’m called to a thing and an idea. I want to share the love and passion I have for music with the world. I want to be a part of a fight to give all people a voice to share their stories. And honestly there does not seem to be a better place to do it than Richmond. I want to learn and be plugged into a place that will continue to shape me and push me to be a better man. Here’s to you Richmond.

Yours Truly,

Andrew
