Car accidents are an unfortunate part of life and sometimes they are unavoidable. Many people are so caught up in the moment when a crash happens that they never stop to think about the consequences of a crash and what comes after. There are several things that might come because of a car crash, so here are just a few of the main ones to be aware of.

Delayed injuries
Sometimes after a car accident, symptoms of an injury don’t always present themselves right away. Unless you are seriously injured and need to be rushed to the hospital right away, adrenaline can often kick in and prevent you from feeling your symptoms right away.

For example, after car accidents, it’s common to suffer from:

· Headaches

· Neck/shoulder pain or stiffness

· Back pain

· Abdominal pain/swelling

· Numbness

· Changes in personality/physical function

· PTSD/anxiety/heightened fear

Emotional trauma
Many victims suffer from emotional trauma after a car accident, and it’s completely natural. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is the most common mental health that people suffer from after accidents, but persistent anxiety and periods of depression are also extremely common in these situations.

PTSD can manifest as recurring thoughts or flashbacks of the accident itself, difficulty with emotions and avoiding people or places that reminded you of the class, as well as hyper-vigilance or paranoia.

Anxiety is often presented as phobias and panic attacks after the accident, as well as sleep disorders and any physical symptoms such as dizziness, nausea and muscles, amongst others. If you are suffering from depression, this might present itself as fatigue, lack of energy, feeling guilty, lack of enjoyment in daily activities, suicidal thoughts, inability to sleep, irrational irritability and anger and/or significant weight loss or gain.

If you are suffering from any of these symptoms and struggling after an accident, make sure you speak to your doctor.

Repairs or write-offs
Depending on how serious your accident was, there is going to be some waiting time to get your car fixed – if it can be done at all. After a car accident, you’ll need to inform your insurer as well as make a claim to get your car repaired.

If you’re at fault, your insurer will work with you to get the repairs done and figure out what is and isn’t covered. Similarly, if the accident was the other party’s fault, then you’re able to save your repairs covered by their insurance. But what happens if your car is a write-off? Well, in this case, you will get a cash payout for a certain amount based on the wroth of your car at the time of the accident and will have you purchase a new car.

After a car accident, everyone’s circumstances are different. There’s no set way that people will react or a timeline to follow for when things will get better. So, all you can do is be aware of what comes after the accident and be prepared.
